Udupi, Jul 28: Members of Udupi district Jaya Karantaka protested over the verdict of the Mahadayi Water Dispute Tribunal’s interim order against releasing water to Karnataka on 28th july 2016 near Udupi clock tower.

Udupi district Jaya Karantaka president Divakar Shetty  said, "We are against Mahadayi river tribunal verdict which was given on  Wednesday, July 27 and it  went against the state, while favouring Goa and Maharashtra people ."

The angry protesters alleged that the state MPs and the state government have done little to effectively represent and resolve the case but State and central government are simply wasting time with political cold war

He added that Kalasa-Banduri Nala (diversion) project was taken up by Karnataka to enable drawing 7.56 tmcft of water from the inter-state Mahadayi to provide drinking water to the twin cities of Hubballi-Dharwad and the districts of Belagavi and Gadag, which suffer most during drought years. The Tribunal headed by J.N. Panchal on Wednesday rejected Karnataka’s plea seeking release of 7.5 tmc of water.
